Practice at Made in Somerset 09

Practice @ Made In Somerset : Wednesday 9th September : the Merlin Theatre, Frome, Somerset

As part of this year’s Made In Somerset (September 9th-11th 2009) Take Art is collaborating with TheatreWorks & Salisbury Arts Centre to bring Practice to Somerset – an evening of new and experimental performance.

This year, Made In Somerset runs over three days kicking off with Practice, an event that supports emerging artists from the wider artist/practitioner community, followed by a showcase of new dance and theatre work made and produced in Somerset, and a symposium to promote discussion and ideas.

This is an open call for practitioners, artists and companies to present new work in front of an audience – any brand new extracts/ideas of work connected with performance. A facilitated discussion will follow.

Practice @ Made

How can Somerset, which has the smallest city, no university campus and is bordered by largely rural communities and self-contained urban centres, evolve and develop into a place that supports new performance work? How can this very particular county in the South West look out, attract and be inspired through interaction with other artists, makers and initiatives? Practice is one step towards bringing new work into the county, and stimulating discussion between audiences and artists.

If chosen, you will receive a £100 performance fee per piece of work plus travel expenses (max £100), show your work at an exciting live event at the Merlin Theatre and have the opportunity to engage in a creative and open dialogue with the audience.

For an application form or further information, please email dominic@theatreworks.org.uk or call 01793 509048

Application deadline is August 14th 2009 at 5pm
