About Us

TheatreWorks.org.uk is an exciting partnership between two neighbouring theatre locality plans made possible through the support of Arts Council England, South West and Theatre Bristol.

TheatreWorks (Wiltshire and Swindon) and Theatre Bath (Bath and North East Somerset) are both delivering locality plans and have come together to provide TheatreWorks.org.uk, an interactive dynamic resource which belongs to the theatre community of the area.

Locality plans are in place in each of the counties of the south west as part of Arts Council England’s drive to support theatre infrastructure strategically in the region by engaging artists, companies and organisations in collaborative relationships.

TheatreWorks

TheatreWorks is a developmental partnership of theatre organisations across Wiltshire and Swindon working together to deliver the Theatre Locality Plan for the County.

TheatreWorks’ key aims are to:-

• Provide a powerful and cohesive advocacy for the value of theatre activity at all levels with the message that ‘Theatre Works’
• Offer a strategic overview to enable existing organisations to operate more effectively in partnerships
• Develop a support infrastructure to enable new theatre practitioners to make and present work and to encourage existing practitioners to base themselves in the area
• Work to enable collaborative partnerships to flourish in order that more theatre is made, presented and seen by more people in Wiltshire and Swindon
• Identify the means to provide professional and youth development opportunities at all levels to drive up quality

Theatre Bath

Theatre Bath is delivering the theatre locality plan for Bath & North East Somerset and, together with other organisations in the regions, is part of Theatre South West. Theatre Bath has one part-time co-ordinator – one day per week – and has worked in partnership with TheatreWorks to set up this website covering both localities.

Theatre Bath is just coming to the end of a successful two year project called Debut. This project helped new and emerging theatre companies to establish themselves in Bath. Among the companies now flourishing is Kilter, a site specific theatre company, now planning their third show.

Theatre Bath is now seeking funding for the next phase of its development. Among other things, it hopes to:

- be a resource of information, advice and guidance on theatre development
- support companies to tour their work
- provide a gateway to a range of resources: spaces, expertise, networks, funding, tours, etc.
- facilitate collaborations with Bath venues and organisations for commissions and performances
- skill up new small enterprises to be effective as businesses
